7nd ICA Conference, Paris. May 26-30, 2022.
“72nd International Communication Association Conference” – Paris – 26-30 May 2022. Samira Ibnelkaïd will give a talk titled “Migration in the digital era: Translocality as a situated, embodied, and artifacted accomplishment“.
The present contribution, rooted in an interactional and phenomenological approach to visual ethnography, is part of the Smart Communication Project and the Humane Technology Use pilot study. It investigates the everyday digital practices of skilled migrants in Finland to both maintain bonds with relatives abroad and build bridges with their host community. These hybrid bonds and bridges that transcend spatial boundaries rely on developing a sociocultural and technobodily literacy and constitute the grounds for sustainable translocalities, i.e., multidirectional networks of people, resources, practices, and ideas (Greiner & Sakdapolrak, 2013).
